My Laptop Works!

So last night my laptop died because I didn’t plug it in. The Pixelbook has this quirk that after the battery dies when you first plug it in to outlet the keyboard will flash every couple seconds instead of giving you a charging symbol. It looks like it’s having a seizure. I remembered that this had happened to me previously and it was a known issue with Pixelbook but I could’t remember the fix.

Thanks to the internet I found that the key was to hold down the “refresh” button and then quickly tap the power button. The only problem with this stragedy is that the left side of my keyboard wasn’t working (as was the problem of why I couldn’t use my laptop to type). So that wasn’t an option. But then I saw someone posted that they fixed this problem by literally running their hands back and forth firmly over the keys. I had considered previously that my keys on the leftside of the keyboard were stuck, however they didn’t obviously look stuck and anyway the amount of “press” (?) is so small that you can’t even get anything in there to try to lift them up.

But I tried it anyway (because what did I have to lose?) and it worked! The magic touch. I hit the refresh + power and it booted up. I was able to type in my password (great sign!) and then I opened up a browser and started typing away. I typed:

“I think this is working!” and was thrilled to see the w and s show up.

So, my laptop isn’t broken at all. Except I let the laptop battery die again (sheesh, Quix!) and my touchpad wasn’t working. But I drummed on it with my fingers and rebooted and it started working as well. So now I can type. Very quickly. Because I can. It’s the only way that I can keep up with my thought and organize them.

That’s it. Oh, and I’m extremely sick. What the hell – it’s not even flu season. UGH.

About Quixie

Hi! I go by "Quixie" My nickname comes from the term I began using to describe myself when I began blogging nearly 4 years ago: "quixotic," meaning "exceedingly idealistic; unrealistic and impractical." It's how I described my evangelical Christian faith at the time. Now I'm an agnostic atheist who is trying to find a balance between idealism and reality.
